Arise & Shine Gardens is seeking a hard-working, highly motivated, experienced Crop Production Assistant to join and grow our small flower and herb farm. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing crop production operations and optimizing productivity and quality.

Job Responsibilities:

•  Assist in growing a sustainable and profitable crop.

• Ensures that best farming practices are consistent with food safety regulations/guidelines.

• Ability to keep area clean and organized, both directly (hands on) and indirectly

• Report concerns related to plant health or employee safety

• Efficient execution of production tasks, including seasonal planning and seed germination.

• Assist with in-field functions (planting, field establishment/maintenance (including mulching,

  composting, fertilizing/amending soil), pest scouting/control, pesticide applications/spray programs, weed control and pruning, fertility, irrigation, etc.) and maintaining accurate notes for each field and general maintenance of tools and growing supplies.

• A positive, flexible attitude and a common-sense approach are essential

• All other duties as assigned

Required Skills:

The Arise & Shine Gardens Crop Production Assistant will have knowledge in the agricultural and farming industry and must have thorough knowledge of agricultural practices, aptitude for working with a variety of flowers, herbs and vegetables, and strong communication skills. The candidate contributes the following competencies:

• Skill set with permanent crop horticulture and effective time-management and organizational skills.

• Knowledge of the production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing crop output.

• Continuously requires ability to follow verbal and/or written direction

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this assignment, the employee is regularly required to endure the following physical requirements:

• Physical requirements include working extended hours (seasonally), working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

• Working around equipment and machinery on a routine basis.

• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

• Use hands and fingers to grasp, move, or assemble objects; bend, stretch, twist, or reach out.

• All applicants must be able to handle the physical nature of the work, including heavy lifting,

  prolonged bending and kneeling, and working in the heat of the summer.
